66 mustang GT, VIN on engine?

    I have a 66 gt fastback This one is not a ShelbyWhere would the vin number be on the engine. I looked behind the carburator but didnt see it

    no VIN on engine unless it is a K code Mustang w/ original engine

    I believe the number is going to be located on the passenger side of the block, at the front, just above where the oil pan meets.

    Oops, maybe I am wrong. I have only verified a K code engine like that. :doh:

    Could not find a vin number on front passenger side. Where would the serial number be on the engine or would there be one? Is there other places (transmission for example)I can look that would have the vin or did they start that later? Also would the number on the back of a 68 Shelby be a Vin # ?

    There won't be a vin on the engine if its a 289, which belongs in that car. There will be a part number and a date code cast in the block right above the starter but the starter needs to be removed to view these numbers. The part number will be something like C6XX XXXX and smaller numbers right above it will be three or 4 digits representing the year/month of the casting.
