I recently read the biography of the lead singer of the Doors, and it said that Jim Morrison at one point owned a blue GT500. The book noted several crashes in the car, but never told of the fate of the car. So does anyone know about this car, if it is still around, and if not, what happened to it?

    thanks,
    jim

Brittany blue, #939. From time to time there are reports of it but no one's produced it yet. Probably went the way of the crusher.

This question has come up several times at www.vintage-mustang.com
I'll look it up, or you can go there and do a search. Try going back about a year or so.
The car number is mentioned but I do not recall it actually being in anyones hands. But I could be wrong about that too. The 1997 SAAC registry doesn't does not list a "Jim Morrison" as a 67 owner.

I went to Vintage Mustang and looked up the post.
Ah, somebody said the Vin Tags were recently on Ebay (at that time Nov '04). Now the whole world knows it, so what can you build with that?

seems like the car was for sale on ebay several years ago, complete with photocopies of title & other documentation listing Jim Morrison, AKA "the lizard king" as owner.

I ran across this through altavista search. I don't own a shelby mustang yet, because i'm a poor college student, but i'm a huge doors fan, and a figure put my 2 cents in on this topic.. I'm sure his car is still around, because his family, and he did had 2 siblings let you know. They gotten everything when jim passed away. I'm sure someone else owns his car now. I have a film of Jim ,which he made himself with his car, and driving like mad man through the desert.I doubt people are interested in seeing the film, but here's a pic of Jim and his car.

The movie "The Doors" has part of that film in it. If I remember right it showed Jim doing dounuts in the desert sand. I have the movie and will have to dig it out and watch it again.

I have watched movies like Two Lane Blacktop and others from 60's and 70's and I never see roads with the white outside lines like the one in the Morrison picture above. I assume it is a fake? Maybe someone who was an adult in that era can tell us for sure.

I've heard about HWY, but there are a couple issues with you're "family has it" Theory. He gave everything to Pam Courson (I think that is her name) when he died. She was his "wife". Never officially married, but she was his constant relationship among his numerous "side projects" if you would. Also, his family was no fan of his. He is quoted saying that they were dead, and his father mirrored that sentiment.

Also, Like i said, there are many documented crashes in that car. Its only sheet metal, it can only take so much.

Good to see another broke college kid on the board.

Yes, pam die like 3 years after jim . You're right Pam's family hold all legal rights to Jim things, but jim's family has sued the doors and things in past. I still think the car is still around even beat up, because value of being morrison's car, but anyways it's cool jim owned a shelby and not some rich posh car like a rolls or a benz.

You can find many roads marked that way everywhere today. Could you find them that way in 1967?

Yeah, but Mojo, most people who can afford a Shelby would be more interested in the Shelby-ness instead of the fact that it was owned by the Lizard King. If it was aroud in beat up condition, it was probably parted out.
