Hello to all, I have loved the 60's era GT350 and GT500s since my teenage years but have never owned one. Well, much to the dismay of my wife I placed a deposit on a 2007 GT500 to put the finishing touch on my mid-life crisis.I'm very excited about the car and hope that it will be accepted into the Shelby "family" and not be viewed as an aftermarket, knockoff type "wannabe". Any thoughts as to how this car will be recieved by the true Shelby enthusiasts? Bill
Bill, I have owned 5 Shelbys over 25 years and had the opportunity of a lifetime to drive a 2007 GT500 test mule at the Autobahn track near Joliet Illinois last summer when it was undergoing testing. To start: You will love driving this new Shelby! What a car! It handled great on the track - yes, quite different than my '66 GT350H that I usually drive on the track - the awesome power and refinement, a grip that could not be better - compared to sliding around corners which I do now. And for the money - I think this is quite a value. I think you will love you new Shelby. As far a being welcome into the Shelby family - I do not see this as an issue. Will the new cars reach the values of the 65 - 70'S? That depends on several factors and we will all have to wait 30 years to find out. So in the meantime, drive the heck out of the 2007 and enjoy yourself.....Gary
The original GT350's were poor handlers compared to the the 80's GLH-S. 20 years of tire and suspension technology later, plus getting the power down to the rear wheels, I am sure the new GT500 will be world class. Will it be accepted by the "true" Shelby enthusiasts? Having owned true Shelbys, but never a Ford, I probably would not be able to give you the predominant view. In my eye, the new car will be no different than an 80's Daytona Shelby in the long run. I don't mean that to sound negative. This will be a very enjoyable car to own and drive. I just don't think this new GT500 will have any added intrinsic value (unless Sammy Hagar throws in a case of tequila in the trunk). robin
Don't forget that another red 67 GT500 went for $160,000 more than Sammy's went for (at Barrett Jackson). Maybe the tequila hurt the value?????????????
Have any of you been "held up" as far as pricing goes on the new '07? I talked to a large ford svt dealer near me and was told that they were going to add a large premium above msrp on these cars because they got away with it on the ford gt. We all know that the gt prices are finally getting back close to where they should be but this price gouging by dealers really burns me up. I'll wait a couple of years and hope prices get more realistic. I think the '07 GT500 will be a great car and hopefully someday I'll have one but I won't pay over sticker for it. Doug
I'm sure that the 2007 shelby will be accepted by all the Shelby enthusiasts. Because it was built as a Shelby, and left the factory as a Shelby. Unlike these so called "continuation cars". Hey folks, some librarian drove it for the first 30+ years of its life. Some history that is. Yeah, all authentic isn't it.
I was at NAIAS in Detroit and the guy giving the speach on the 07 GT500 said they would build them for at least 3 years. So you should have time for the frenzy to die down a get one for a good price before they stop making them.
The three year run news sounds very promising. I hope Mr. Shelby is still alive & kickin' at the end of the run.
