build sheet engine code 405J05, is that the same as a 390 which has a bore of 405.? Should I assume the C.J. [ R ] would begin with 413. Thanks---S.
I can't answer if that is also for 390 but I believe the 405 is for the model line the engine is intended for. I remember seeing a 66 428 that had 410 on the engine id tag which I thought indicated it was a 410 CID but learned it was the notation that referred to full size cars. ine is actually a J04 not J05
If you still have a copy of my build sheet can you compare it with yours to see were the diffs. are.? Appreciate very much.---S.
I do but I only have 2/3 of my original, the side with the engine id is missing. I got the # from my engine tag. Ive got a call into Mr. Data to see if he can explain. Tim
OK, According to Mr. Marti they are just an internal plant number to id the engines. I did check another build sheet of a late Jan car and it also was 405J04 Tim
It wouldn't be on the block only the engine tag that goes under the coil. There is a corresponding number on the build sheet. Tim
Thank you Tim. I thought I was the unlucky one who got a 390 when they had the shortage of engines back then. I also thought about if your car had a 4 speed & mine w an auto might be the diff. Again that 405 bore size of the 390 threw me a curve.---S.
