Re the "11" in the vin 3rd and 4th digits, I asked a friend , an ex ford
employee, about this who has owned and still owns several Shelbys over past
25 + years . His reply to me was :

My legit original 68 Shelby KR convertible had VIN# 8T11Cxxxxxx stamped
    on the inner fender.

I researched this back when I was at Ford and even contacted the plant folks
at Metuchen. No other explanation other than a lazy mis-stamp by the blind
man working the stamping machine. I'm certain it was the original panel too.
I'm glad to hear of another "11" error out there.

and I've also seen other very original big block 68 Shelbys with a "C"
engine code in the chassis stamping. Also seen more than one where a blank
spot was where the engine code should be. But all the tags were correct.

    - every other tag on my car (door, dash, Shelby VIN plate, buck tag, build
sheet) was perfect, correct & original. Just an oddball chassis stamping.

Does the rest of the VIN number all match one another?

  2. The only problem I see here is that all 68 Shelbys were built at Metuchen ( T ) and all 69-70 cars were built at Dearborn ( F ). I wonder how a 69-70 Shelby could end up with a T as the plant build code? I would suggest having someone read the build dates on the sheet metal on the front of the car and compare those to the rear of the car just to make sure they are the same.
    Thank You,
