Shelbys on the B-J list this year

Discussion in 'Shelby Mustang List' started by MHeroy@aol.com, Feb 16, 2006.

  1. Gang,

It looks like there are 24 Shelby's registered for B-J Scottsdale this year
(counting some replica Cobras that probably shouldn't be), including four '67
GT500's, three '68 GT500 convertibles, and one '68 KR convertible, among others.

I guess we'll see what the current high end of the market is, given the
"Barrett-Jackson bump." I'm not going to be there this year (probably going to
catch the WPB auction in March) but will be watching.

Would you believe that the new Black Book/CPI shows a #2 '67 GT500 at $220k?
Have I been asleep for the last year? Dave Kinney appraised my car #841 last
May at $140k, and I thought that was pretty good for what's basically a very
sharp #2 car but with no air and an automatic transmission.

In light of the recent threads about a possible "peaking market" for these
cars, it'll be interesting to see what happens. I'm on the sidelines no matter
what, as I wouldn't want to have to replace either of my GT500's, but it's fun
    to watch.

    Other opinions?

    Cheers,

That is my 68 KR convert at B-J, so I am as anxious as anybody to see how well the Shelbys do this year! From what I have seen, the market for good cars (ie, no stories, good history, concours correct type cars) is very strong. The so-so cars that were dragged up by the rising prices on the great stuff seem to have leveled off...for instance, non- Shelby Mustangs that jumped 30% but they made 8,000 of them. With prices where they are now, we are seeing a lot more people doing their homework and being very selective. This is good, I don't like seeing people jumping in and getting burned. If you are spending $10k or $500k, you NEED to know what you are buying, be it shoes or a car. It is not that hard to study something a little and be an educated consumer. I always encourage people to slow down and think about what they are buying when I can tell they are new to these cars and maybe a little too anxious to just BUY something NOW. And, I always tell people to buy the absolute best car they can afford. If you don't have enough to buy a great 65 GT350, for instance, buy a great 66 for what you can afford. In the long run, quality and condition always win out. As the famous movie line goes "You can't polish a turd". Never more true than in collector cars!

I think there are a lot of owners of "B List" cars at B-J this year that will be ticked. You know, the guys who put a $40k car on eBay stating "At Barrett-Jackson this car would sell for over $100k!!!". Or maybe I am just dreaming that these guys who watch too much TV will get a wake up call? LOL

All I know is that I am bringing a great KR and am hoping it does a reasonable price and gets a good home. Really!

    Colin
