Hi guys, Just visited my GT-350 clone in the paint shop. :>) It's in primer now, ready for paint. The engine bay has already been painted, and per your advice, the trunk compartment has been painted body color. The thing is, it doesn't LOOK body color to my eyes. I don't know if it's because the paint went on thin, or what, but it seems as though it is darker/flatter than the inside of the trunklid which was painted at the same time (factory Candy Apple Red, BTW). Can you guys confirm the proper color for the trunk compartment is body color? Also, the trunk side of my pass-through door was apparently painted body color originally (light blue A-code car), so would it be correct to paint the pass-through door red now? I seem to recall some of you advising it should be black? I need to give a go-ahead for the final color tomorrow, so rapid responses would be greatly appreciated! :>) Mike
The trunk is body color on 65 to 70 Shelby/Mustang. The "pass- through door" is semi gloss black on both sides on a 65,66 Shelby. Hope this helps. Bob G. "Pass through" door, oh, I was thinking the side doors. All the welded together body sheet metal should painted body color. The back side (trunk facing side) of the door behind the rear seat should be semi-gloss black. Mike- Your question about the inside of the trunk seeming to be "flatter" than the exterior...Multiple reasons: Sound deadener on both flanks of the rear qtr. panels. This surface is not smooth and doesn't reflect light. Also, there are very few other flat areas in the trunk that would reflect light like the underside of the trunk lid. Other questions have already been addressed correctly by others. Mike I assume you are trying to make it LOOK like a Shelby and to that end, black inside and out is the color it would be from the factory. If you don't want it to look like a Shelby, paint it whatever color you like best. I can't comment on what you have on the car originally because it is from a non Shelby car. The donor car you have may not have had black interior. Good luck with your project. Bob Gaines ,SAAC Shelby 65-70 concours judge. My car originally had a blue interior, which is why the trunk side of the pass-through is blue. The technically correct answer, for all Mustangs, is apparently that both sides of the pass-through are painted INTERIOR color; for Shelbys, this happens to be black. Thanks again! Mike

Opps should have added Except for the couple that were not black ....of course IN 66 Jeff S -----Original Message----- >From: speegle (AT) pipeline (DOT) com >Sent: Feb 10, 2006 8:20 PM >To: MikeLDrew (AT) aol (DOT) com, bgaines (AT) kc (DOT) rr.com >Cc: shelbymustang (AT) carmemories (DOT) com >Subject: Re: Paint question > >>The technically correct answer, for all Mustangs, is apparently that both >>sides of the pass-through are painted INTERIOR color; for Shelbys, this happens >>to be black. > > >Except for the couple that were not black ....of course > >Jeff S > >
