For the 1968 model year all Shelby's came with wheel covers, given that fact why are they so hard to find and when you do the cost is more than a set of ten spokes. What would you expect to pay for a NOS set? Tout
Well I certainly wouldn't pay the $3500 a set recently paid for some on Ebay. My guess as to why they are so expensive is same as emission control systems, most ended up in the trash can. Also 10 spokes can be refinished, wheel covers are usually scrap if you rub something.
Hey Tim, The prices on these are as with the other hard to find items, it's funny that you can go years without seeing a NOS set and then all of a sudden two NOS sets appear, one with a buy it now for 3000.00 and the other at 1100.00 with 4 days to go, the second set looks as if his friend is bidding it up as every new bid gets out done and the bidder has no history of buying anything for a mustang or Shelby.I was toying with going to covers ,but at these prices the ten spokes will stay. Tout
I noticed that too. If you look at the guy thats bidding on them, as well as his used set and his air filter, you'll find he does nothing but jewelry and one of his customers is guess who. Ought to turn him in for shill bidding. I was toying with the hubcap thing but I got a email from one of the judges regarding 10 spokes, I'll forward it to you. Tim
HI, from N.Dak....I had the pleasure of driving a next to new GT500KR, in 1969, when my "K" model Mustang was in the, Westlie Motor Ford Dealership body shop, in Minot, N.Dak..It had hub caps, and before I had to take it back, I had lost one, and the dealership didn't think a thing about it...I now have a GT500KR, that I bought in the mid 80's with hub caps, I never liked the 10 spokes on that car..As far as nit-picking about the price of parts, these cars are way old...If you have a "TRAILER QUEEN" than stop whining about prices, and dress up that Queen. I however don't care about NOS stuff. ...I drive my car, and I drive the **** out of it. Barret Jackson, is making you all think that we have 150K cars,,,and we don't ...Lets drive them and enjoy them, as Carrol Shelby says to do with them.........nuf said...
Neil, How about 50 bucks for yours? Since you beat the thing you don't really need them ,do you?LOL Tout
When it comes to ebay stuff, just wait them out, it wasn't last year I saw 4 for about $100.00 Ok folks, I'm sure I'll never see another 67 Shelby steering wheel for less than $1000
The 67 hupcaps are just T-bird ones with a different center cap. Is the 68 hubcap a production Ford passenger car hubcap with a different center cap?
I'm not sure on the differences between 67 and 68 hub caps, I do have a set of 1968, but the SS trim rings are in need of repair or replacement, I can restore the center sections ,does any one repair the trim rings or what others could be used to replace them? Tout
I sold my 68 Hubcaps from my former 68 GT500 with the original steel wheels for $350 bucks about 3 years ago. I still do not care for the look of them myself.
Hey, TOUT, Check it OUT on "Members Galleries",,,,,its a beater, with a 27 S.O. bored and stroked...Pics were taken 2 weeks ago, at a show.....Later Neil in N.Dak.
Thanks Neil, Car looks great, I have a set of caps that need work, so for now I will keep the 10 spokes, one question though,my set of caps have the cobra jet in the center and all the ones I see for sale say shelby cobra, would the cobra jet be for KR cars? Tout
Tout, in case you didn't get my e-mail, the Cobra Jet emblems, were for the fuel cap on the C.J KR Shelby. The Shelby Cobra ones were for ALL the wheel covers...........Neil in N.Dak.
Tout, me again, 67 did not use wheel covers, they had Mag Star wheels, or 10 spokes. So the caps were 68 only. The fuel cap emblem was the only difference between the 68 GT500, and the GT500KR. Wheel covers were the same. Neil in N.Dak.
My 67 came with hub caps they were not 67 T-Bird hub caps as I said earlier, they were 67 7.0 liter Galaxy hub caps, with different emblem in the center cap.
Quite a few 1967 Shelbys came from S-A with steel wheels and hub caps. The hub cap in question is a Thunderbird part. A Shelby emblem covered the Thunderbird emblem in the center cap. The hub cap carries a Shelby S7MS part number. I know for sure. All 4 hubcaps from my '67 Shelby #1688 have been in a box since when the car was brand new. The first optional wheel offered on 1967 Shelbys was the Mag Star 5 spoke wheel. The 10 spoke wheel showed up towards the last part of Shelby production in 1967. Regards, shlby66
