Hello all I have a 67 gt500 that I am in the very slow process of restoring. I don't have the original drivetrain. The car came with a 68 428CJ and a top loader. The trans is the 28 spline small input shaft model. I've been told that this is the correct trans for the car and that the big shaft 31 spline trans was not used untill 68 and I have been told that my car should have the 31 spline trans. Is there anyone out there who ownes a 67 that they know to be original or has restored one and can tell me positively without a doubt which trans is right for the 67? thanks
67 GT 500s use the RUG S 1 3/8" (large spline) input with 31 spline output. The main case should be the C5 version as there also was a C8 main case used on some 68 RUG S versions. Tim
go to David Kee's Toploader web site. he will have the description of the correct trans for your car. as I recall from mine It had a C5 casting on the Tail shaft and a C6...casting on the main body. your FORD vin would be stamped in the boss on the bottom of the unit. what color is your car??
I had looked at his website in the past but he doesn't list a 67 mustang with a 428 and a 67 with a 390 lists the 28 spline trans. The car will eventually be back to its original color of acapulco blue.
