While cleaning out the trunk of my 67 GT350, I came across what appears to be an original set of chrome exhaust tips in their original boxes. Any idea how to differentiate these from the repros that are on the market today?
Re: 67 Shelby Chrome Exhaust Tips It's easy: Fomoco box, with the correct type printing. BUT: NOS originals would be necked down to slide over a 1 3/4" tailpipe, Ok, maybe it's 1 7/8. Ford used a 2" tailpipe, but the tip end gets reduced. So, I see your tips are for a 2" slipover, not reduced, then I suspect they are repops.
Re: 67 Shelby Chrome Exhaust Tips Part numbers for the exhaust tips for a 1967 Shelby should be S7MS 5232-A. So you have the right part number on the box If the boxes had been marked D1ZZ 5255-A and B (RH and LH respectively), they would be for a 1971 Mach 1 or Boss 351. Those would fit over a full 2 inch pipe rather than a 1 3/4 pipe and look similar to the '67 part except the larger outlet side is not as long as the Shelby. Overall length is about the same. Your photo seems to show the Shelby part. Hope this helps.
Re: 67 Shelby Chrome Exhaust Tips Hmmmm...This car was purchased in 1979 and the owner said he had the exhaust tips for at least 5 years. They have been sitting in the trunk ever since then. I did measure them and they are about 1 7/8" but due to their age, I kinda doubt they are repros?

Re: 67 Shelby Chrome Exhaust Tips A friendwho is an original owner and still owns his 68 500, has a set of exhaust tips that were ordered through parts( I dont know when). They were in the original box and when opened were the correct pipe with in a pipe for 68 500s but the part of the pipe under the valance to exhaust or 1/3 of the tip is painted a high temp flat black over the chrome. I have never seen this before, perhaps a different supplier? Or when ordered through Ford were they sending out anything that was close as Shelbys contract with Ford had been cancelled and they were trying to fill orders in the early seventys?
I can tell you have some genuine NOS 67 shelby exhaust tips. There were two types used in 67 Shelby production,the first was made from two pieces joined at the base of the bell not a inch away like the repro.The second type used after aprox #1100 was made in all one piece with no welds. You have the second type.The engineering number was stamped into the metal but sometimes it was very light and the chrome filled in and covered it. All 68 GT350 and GT500 used the pipe inside a pipe design and they were painted black at the 3inch side of the bell. They had the S8MS engineering number stamped into them.If you are interested in selling them PM me, I have a friend that needs a set. Bob Gaines
