I was driving down the street yesterday and there is a shopping center where people park cars for sale near the street.

There is a cherry 1970 Cougar Elminator Convertible for sale for $20k asking. I called the owner, he has had it 8 years and just had the original 351 Cleveland rebuilt using all aluminum Edelbrock parks. He said there were 1,980 of there cars made and only 26 red with a black top and interior. He is in the military and is being transferred.

Does anyone here know these cars that well? I can't find too many listed or for sale.

    Mike

They are very nice, somewhat hard to find parts for,and you better love it to buy it,a friend swapped and got a 428 cj cougar convert thinking it would be easy to sell.....boy was he wrong, were'nt all the eliminators hard tops?
I've owned a 71 cougar convert for 15 years, love it fun to drive, but they take that left of center ford guy to buy one:laf:

I am not at all ashamed to admit I have a 69 XR7 convertible 390 car in my stable along with my 65 ragtop, 66 shelby, 2 1970 Boss 302's and a 71 429CJ Mach 1. My XR7 is next on the restoration list and parts are hard to find and expensive ($2K to recover the seats in original style leather).

$20K seems a bit high for a 351 car and there were no convertible eliminators to my knowledge, but the power everything, leather seats and hide away headlights are just plain cool!!!

These guys are quite helpful: http://www.mercurycougar.net/

They can/will answer any question you have about these close cousins.

    thx
