When I bought 6s081 it had the optional wood steering wheel and a center cap that I had not seen before and have not seen since. A pic of is below and I was wondering if anyone else has seen a center cap like it. Jay
No never seen one like that ... because of the use of Shelby, as it is, it may be a replacement piece from the early 70's
Your steering wheel appears to be a period Shelby Performance catalog item. To my knowledge it was availible from 1966 to 1969. I have Shelby Performance catalogs from each year and a steering wheel with this emblem is in "availible" each catalog. I have 2 wheels with this emblem in my parts cache. I believe this emblem is rare today as most of the catalog wheels that I see on cars or eBay have the 1967 OE wheel emblem (repro?) installed. I have seen this wheel on 1967 Shelbys as an accident / service replacement wheel. I hope this helps. Rick
56ace, Yes, that is a genuine Shelby American horn button assembly that was available from their over the counter parts list. It is somewhat rare in most of the horn centers had the familiar red, white, blue Cobra logo. If thats what was on your car when you aquired it; I would absolutely use it. It's a neat rare piece! I have a friend with a '68 Shelby and he installed the over the counter wood wheel with that horn button because the white and blue motif matched the color of the shifter knob on his '68. Looked great. Enjoy your interesting and somewhat exclusive part. shlby66
Thanks guys, sounds like while it may not be original to the car, it is probably a pretty rare piece. If and when my car stops being a track car, I'll put it back in. In the mean time, I'll put it somewhere safe. Jay
I too have seen that emblem. I bought back in 1992 or 1993 a NOS original in the box optional wood wheel for my 66 shelby. The wheel I bought has the more common snake emblem. The guy I was buying it from had a center cap for an optional wood wheel with that emblem he had picked up years earlier. Until now it was the only one I had seen. Jay
