I'm restoring my 69 Shelby GT350 wheels....someone had painted the centers with silver paint. I got the paint off and under it seems to be a "gold'ist" color over the rough aluminum casting in the centers (ribs are polished). As I remember the original wheels in 69, they had a gold'ish tint to the center. Does anyone know about that finish and how I can replace it...is it spray paint? If so, what kind and where do you get it? Thanks, David
Mine and others I've seen are a rough cast aluminum natural grey finish. I cleaned years of oxidation off mine with a power wire brush so they now have cast silver appearance which looks good. Ribs are polished as you stated.
I have been waiting years for this topic to come up. I have brought this up on this forum before with no response. I purchased Shelby #406 new. It was part of the wheel recall program. When wheels were replaced, center caps were replaced with the caps you described. I have never seen a Shelby with these replacement caps. At least i'm sure I havent totally lost my brain!!! Thanks Paul...
Why don't you ask Craig Conley at Paradise Wheels for clarification on these wheels. He has restored thousands of them by now and I believe he supplys the current reproduction wheels/caps/lugs. I'm sure he can give you a qualified answer. shlby66
