OK...first of all, I would like to thank all of you for your help regarding my previous post. And now, here I am again with another question. I've figured out that my car is #1958, but there were only 1,253 GT 350's made in 1968. Is there a way to know out of those 1,253 made, what "number" this car was as far as production goes? And while I'm at it, what is the purpose of the "unit" number encoded in the VIN? Any help would be appreciated...
Re: Another question from the New person... From what I understand, the GT 500 and the GT350 were made togather at A.O. Smith. So they just didn't make all the GT 350 and move on the the GT 500. then throw in the Convs. and numbers get all mixed up. What I did was to go the registry and count the nunbers that were made before yours and that should get you there, but look at the date made too and see if it mataches, your car, because your car could have been asigned a number and may have been delayed for something on the line. I hope this helps. PS. My 68 GT500 is about the 100 made in 68.
It is 1958 out of the total 4400+ 68s made however they were not built in strict numerical order. If you wanted to spend about 2-3 days with a registry you could probably get a real close idea of what numerical number yours was made. Tim
