Folks....I read the fear and disappointment on here from BJ's friday auctions of the 2 68 500 verts -- regretfully I didn't see the cars so I don't know how nice they were -- but tonight there was maybe 5 or 6 shelbys sold live on TV and the prices were very good -- someone will read this and place the correct numbers but here is the closest I can remember a special order color yellow 68 kr vert 4 spd -- sold for $280k 1968 kr fastback sold for $400k (WOW) -- there was 3 67 500's -- one went for over $400...one was like $300k and the other was near $280k -- there was a 65 350 that went for like $335 -- i think -- I know some of these are guesses but let's spread a little cheer around here -- last night had people nervous.... Fear not....good night....j
I never take auctions as a barometer for value. They are more of an anomally that a true indication. Tim
Does anyone know if any CSX's crossed the block? Either original or continuation series? If so, at what price? conrad
The 427 Cobra went for $500,000, 65 GT350 went for $311,000. The 68 1/2 GT 428 called the Hemi Hunter went for $475,000. Mike
I cannot believe that 68 1/2 went for that much. That is actually one of my favorite cars in coupe form. That was amaizing!!
I have had my Shelby for 19 years and until my cars twin (67 red GT 500)went for $410,000 on Saturday night I never considered life without her. I know it was an auction, but for the first time ever they have my attention.
You could build a Killer Clone that would totally blow your original away in all areas (Except originality) for $120,000, Restore yours to the condition of the One that pulled that money subtract the cost difference from $400,000 and you know what you are dealing with!!
Would anyone care to comment on the post BJ auction market for Shelby cars? I'm curious and eagerly anticipating some actual sales prices now, to either support or discredit some of the BJ figures. There have been numerous cars this week on ebay that didn't meet their reserves...and the bidding stopped miles away from what similar cars sold for in Scottsdale two weeks ago. Thanks, LS
BJ is an anomally not a barometer. If you follow Ebay prices few Shelbys actually sell. I do believe the reserves are set higher based on speculation from auction prices. Its funny people are always coming up to me saying "Do you know your car is worth $150K?". This summer they'll be saying $250K. Most people assume since one car sold for a certain price, all models of that car are worth the same. Personally its frustrating because for those who just love owning, driving and fixing their cars all it does is drive up insurance costs and replacement parts costs. Tim
I agree, I don't think that anyone is rushing to pay $400k for a '67 500, but it will influence the prices to an extent. I'm curious to see what some recent sales will do and also see what will happen to the muscle car or collector car market in general. It seems the prices on some of the cars have eclipsed the late 80's, but the buyers are smarter now. How much will they wise up? Will the $50k '69 Z28 fall back to where it should be for a high volume production car? No more $200k Ferrari 308s like there were in 1990, but people will pay $10mil+ for a GTO now. LS
