Anyone on the list been watching? I didn't realize the coverage would start on Thurs, so have only seen about an hour of it, so far. Dave
Dave. I went to BJ in person for the first time yesterday. The shelby's involved were unremarkable. There were no 65's, no 66's a couple of 67 and 68 cars and one 69 that I saw. I had considered selling my 66 there but the no reserve thing is a little unsettling. The lime green modified 68 ended up selling for more that a stock appearing 68KR? Maybe it was timing. By the time the KR appeared, most of the crowd was long gone. In fact, most of the shelby's were sold very late in the auction. I have to think it hurt the sales. I also saw the black 69 428 mach. It was a nice car but I left with the reality that I had a totally different view of the car on TV the night prior. It looked specatular! In person, it was OK. Lots of touched up nicks and chips......and a recolor at that. I watched cars...my wife watched the people! We both had a good time. Oh. The BJ effect was never more evident watching the Superformance Daytone coupe sell for almost three times the normal price because of some signatures and add ons (mechanical bling). Dave Dave & Shelby Fans, I had the experience of working the B-J Auction, Thursday through Saturday PM. We volunteered to display our 67 GT with the FORD Company New cars. They positioned the car, at the entrance, with a King Ranch Truck. As for the Auctions: If you have any specific question, fire away. I inspected all of the 67-70 Shelby's for sale. Noticeably absent: NO 65 or 66 Shelby's, NO Convertible Shelby's, NO Boss 302, 351 or 429. Good cars brought good money, not extremely high. Poor quality cars were taken at low bids, maybe to be restored again? Pete Geisler Orlando Mustang 407 688 1966
Pete, What happened to the Ford GT "roadster"? Didn't see it either cross the block, OR show up in any of the summaries? Dave

Built by Genaddi Design Group, the prototype car will cross the auction block at No Reserve to represent the first production model. Net proceeds from the sale of the roadster during Barrett-Jackson will benefit the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The fourth annual automotive lifestyle event at the South Florida Expo Center will include three days of No Reserve auction excitement from Thursday, March 30 through Saturday, April 1; SPEED will broadcast the event again this year. "This is a truly remarkable car with some of the most innovative engineering ever incorporated into a roadster, much less a supercar," Craig Jackson, president and CEO of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Co., said. "The opportunity to own serial #001 of this amazing car will draw interest among collectors worldwide." The GTX1 features a remarkable hardtop that can be configured in three ways for Ford's sizzling GT depending on an owner's taste. With all four pieces attached, the GTX1 is a closed coupe. The removal of certain pieces can turn the vehicle either into a T-top or full open roadster. The top's innovative design also allows for the top clamshells to open up as a moon roof. Originally designed as a special edition vehicle for the 2005 SEMA show, designer Kip Ewing contacted master coach builder Mark Gerisch of Genaddi Design Group to turn his vision into reality. Gerisch had a reputation for working with vehicles that most builders would not tackle. The GTX1 caused a sensation when it debuted at SEMA and has been a favorite of the show circuit ever since. The prototype car has also been the subject of media stories around the world. The #001 Ford GTX1 will include all street legal options. NCMEC fights each year to prevent child abduction, help find missing children and assist victims of child abduction and sexual exploitation, their families, and the professionals who serve them. "We believe our bidders will open their hearts to help when the GTX1 crosses the block," Jackson noted. "It happened during the sale of the 2007 Shelby GT500 in Scottsdale, to the tune of $600,000, for the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation, and we're sure that people will open their hearts again to help struggling kids. It's rare to have an opportunity to own an instant collectible and support such an important cause." The Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach automotive lifestyle event will include a gala, vendor displays and three days of No Reserve auction excitement from Thursday, March 30 through Saturday, April 1, 2006, at The South Florida Expo Center. This year's event will include more than 500 quality collector cars.

Pete, Not a shelby question but I wonder how Gary Wales felt about the 3 Bently's he sold. To me it looked like they came in really short of what he may have been expecting. No Reserve would be a big risk, in my book, on those cars. Unbeliveable cars for what I thought was low money. Guys, I can't say how Gary Wales felt, but I do have to say that I was very surprised to see his cars at a muscle-car oriented auction. I don't know what he was asking for the Blue Train Aero Coupe, but it was well-known in RROC, BDC, RREC, etc. that he was asking $2.5MM for the Franay and $500k for the Royale (B160EX, I believe). All are stunning cars that I'd seen at a couple of RROC National Meets. I did overhear Steve Davis telling Mr. Wales that the Franay was going to "the best home on the planet," for what it's worth. Amazing- my wife actually scolded me (by phone, of course) for not making a run at the Aero Coupe. I had to remind her of the number of house and cottage projects she has going for this year- is that supportive or what? Cheers, Mike Heroy CSX4045 67 GT500 #841 68 GT500 #389
