Bob Bondurant Marks 40th Anniversary of Shelby Cobra's FIA World Manufacturers Championship Friday July 1, 5:20 pm ET CHANDLER, Ariz., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Bob Bondurant will celebrate the 40th anniversary of his FIA World Manufacturers Championship in a Shelby Cobra with former Shelby teammates at the SAAC's national convention July 1-3 at California Speedway. This Championship is significant as it was the first time that Ferrari was defeated in FIA World Manufacturers competition. That year, Bondurant won races at Sebring 12 Hours, and Monza, Italy and a second place finish at Spa, Belgium. "It was a fantastic achievement for me, both personally and professionally, and for Carroll Shelby as well," says Bondurant. "Carroll decided we had to beat Ferrari. Because of that, I had Ferrari after me to drive; at that time the only American they had drive for them. That Championship launched my career." The celebration at California Speedway will include past drivers and team members of Shelby. Four of the original six Daytona Coupes plus the 427 Super Coupe and the red Willment Coupe will be on display. It is expected to be the largest convention the club has ever had.
