Ok, so this is weird and way beyond my ability to troubleshoot at this point. Kindhearted folks have been stopping me and telling me that I have a tail light out. But occasionally the side of the defective light changes. I don't put too much thought into it. So a few weeks ago I take the rear section of the car apart, drop the bumper, pull out the fiberglass panel and light sockets. Everything is cleaned and everything looks pretty good for a 40 something year old car. I check the lights and the left side is bright and works great but the right side is dim. I figure a ground problem or the signal switch. The grounds look good so I purchase a new signal switch install it and still the same problem. Then it gets weird, I am backing up the other day against a white door with my headlights off and notice the right side working great and bright and the other side not working. So on a hunch I turn on the headlights and blammo they switch working and not working. SO as it stands, with my lights off my right side brake light works, with them on the left side works. Any thoughts on where to look from here?
Run a wire from the ground side of your battery to the side with the lights are out and see if they work. If they work check for bad ground. If they still do not work check crimp connectors at the dynamite sticks if they look ok it could be the dynamite stick.
