CARROLL SHELBY’S EXTRAORDINARY LIFE TO BE CELEBRATED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Carroll Shelby International and Ford Motor Company to Host Public Event LOS ANGELES – May 17, 2012 – Carroll Shelby International, Inc., (OTC: CSBI.PK) and Ford Motor Company will celebrate the incredible life of Carroll Hall Shelby at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles on May 30, 2012. The two day event will feature a display of significant cars, an opportunity for fans to film a message about Mr. Shelby, a special ceremony and other activities. Carroll Shelby passed away on May 10, 2012, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. “Carroll Shelby changed the course of history and touched the lives of millions through his racing, his companies and his charity,” said Joe Conway, president of Carroll Shelby International, Inc. and board member. “He challenged us and our friends at Ford Motor Company to honor his legacy by continuing this work. We wanted the first step to be a celebration of this exceptional man for everyone who shares his passion for performance.” The champion racing driver, entrepreneur, pilot, philanthropist, manufacturer and race team owner embodied the American spirit. He founded Carroll Shelby International, a publicly held corporation that owns car company Shelby American and a licensing group. Shelby American’s relationship with Ford Motor Company helped propel the company into the hearts of people worldwide with cars like the Cobra, GT350 and GT500. “Carroll Shelby was a tremendous influence on my family and Ford Motor Company,” stated Edsel Ford II, member of the Board of Directors of Ford Motor Company. “We’re honored to be part of this important milestone in the continuing relationship between Ford and Shelby.” Shelby’s favorite organization was the Carroll Shelby Foundation™, which provides medical assistance for those in need, including children, as well as educational opportunities for young people through automotive and other training programs. It also benefits the Carroll Shelby Automotive Foundation. Donations to the Carroll Shelby Foundation are encouraged in lieu of flowers at www.carrollshelbyfoundation.org. The museum display will include the first Shelby Cobra built, 2013 Ford Shelby GT500, the new Shelby 1000, a Series 1 and other vehicles from the past five decades. The cars will be displayed throughout the facility and will be accessible for viewing as part of general ticked admission. The guest list for the invitation-only service is being developed due to space limits. Guest speakers are expected to include close friends of Mr. Shelby such as Edsel Ford, Dan Gurney and Bill Neale. People involved with Shelby’s interests, from chili cook-offs to aviation, autos, philanthropy and societal groups will be invited. Additional facts will be released on www.carrollshelbyfoundation.org and www.shelbynation.com. Details will not available from the Petersen Museum or any Shelby organization. Re: Carroll Shelby's Exraordinary Life to be Celebrated at Peterson Museum in SoCal This turned out to be a great event! Many "thanks" to those who contributed to the event, especially the Shelby and Ford representatives of course the speakers who shared personal stories about Carroll. Great stories about a great man! I hope everyone enjoyed the webcast but if you missed it, I will post some photos soon and maybe a video of the salute later. All the best...
I missed the Gurney speech but the Bill Neale one was good I got thee at 4 pm to watch the cars arrive. The persentation was in a tent at 7 pm., the tent on the second floor of the museum. The tent the event was in was about 150 ft. long and had big pictures from Shelby's life throughout the years. Most touching was the speech by a young woman who Shelby helped get a new heart when she was only 5 months old! She and Shelby stayed in touch throughout the years. There were several rare Cobras displayed inside, including the first one made, and the second one made. Outside on the roof there were at least four genuine Cobras and various replicas and about 40 Shelby Mustangs. The Museum shop was hip to the event, stocking books on Shelby and some models and fine art work. I think the cars will be displayed through this weekend, so if you live within half a day's drive of the Museum at Wilshire & fairfax, I'd get down there to see the whole thing (I hope they let you go through the tent to see the big blow up pictures). Highlights for me--meeting Shelby's aircraft guy, and the guy who dressed up as a friar at Terlingua, and giving a cobra print to Henry Ford III (I didn't have enough nerve to tell him that, for us growing up in Detroit, the Fords were "our royal family.") If any members in LA have a tape of the Gurney speech, let me know, I'll trade a fine art print to hear it!
