Steve, I'm going on memory here and could be totally out of whack but I believe you have the opposite problem. The clutch pedal assist spring helps you get the pedal to the floor so it is in effect too strong for the built-in return forces in the diaphram type Centerforce clutch, that's why the pedal sometimes stays on the floor.

I have a Centerforce dual friction clutch in my 66 and love it, never had this issue and the original clutch pedal assist spring is installed. I have however heard of this problem before and I believe the simple solution is to remove the clutch pedal assist spring.

The one I'm talking about is the heavy under-dash spring. In the NPD catalog I have it is part# 7534, named "Spring, Clutch Pedal".

it's not that easy to remove, but once it's out, you won't have that problem again.

I had the same issue on my 70 boss with a diaphram clutch. The large spring under the dash actually helps in both directions. Once it is past the center point, it helps depress the clutch and once it returns past the center point, it helps hold the pedal up (the spring is compressed the most at the center point). The problem is that with a diaprham clutch that is so easy to push, it never get's back past the center point. You need to remove the spring as mentioned. In order to do this, you need to remove the pedal, or at least slide it off the mounting rod so the spring can be removed. It is a bear to do with the dash and seats in, but can be done. I added another spring in the engine compartment to keep the pedal up.

you can just remove the clutch petal stop bracket . It contacts the petal as it reaches it's upper range of travel. With it removed, move the petal up as far as can go. This will take all or most of the tension off the spring so it can be removed easier.
