Clutch question and opinions

Discussion in 'Shelby Mustang List' started by Shelby6t7@aol.com, May 14, 2006.

  1. I would like the opinion of the list members on this one........
I am about to reinstall the motor and tranny back into my 67 500. After
inspecting the clutch and disc, they can use to be serviced.
The clutch disc is 11 1/2" in diameter which must be the original stock Ford
    size.
After checking the Centerforce website, it seems that they don't offer
anything in that size, only 11"

Since my car is not near by, my question is:
Can the stock 428 flywheel accept an 11" clutch? Keep in mind that the 428
flywheel is not the same as a 390.
If so, would you go with a completely new Centerforce clutch set up (or any
    other) after market vendor?
Or would you have the 11 1/2" clutch and disc resurfaced then reinstall?

    Thanks
    Kenny

  2. To my knowledge the bolt pattern for the pressure plate is the same but the
bellhousing had to have the additional lump in it to accommodate the different
shape of the pressure plate shell. So in short the 11" should work fine.

On another note, getting the replacement original style pressure plate and
clutch should not be all that difficult.
