Concours deduction for using plumbers tape?

I could be wrong, but I don't believe any tape or sealant is required on those threads. I recall that being a flared fitting and the seating of the flares creates the seal, not the threads (as pipe threads would do).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'm going from memory, which in my case, is usually a bad idea!

No tape required, it is a mechanical seal/inverted flare. Be sure there is no damage to the tapered/flared mating surfaces.

 

Just to answer the question (for senders, hose fittings etc) there would be a deduction if tape or excessive liquid sealer was visible on any fitting. I typically brush a little permatex on lower threads with a model brush.

 

Agreed. Don't use it! In 31 Years working at a Ford dealership, I made a fair amout of money cleaning that stuff out of carburetors. Although it seems like a good idea, it is totally unneccessary and I have seen cracked fittings and carb bodies caused by its use due to the wedging effect on an already close tolerance. Snug it down so it doesn't leak and leave it. The threads are designed to do the job.
