They shut off crusing here when there was a running gun battle between rival gang members one Saturday night ending with multiple gun shot victims and one car inside a local business. That was ten years ago, since that time, crusing has been outlawed. This past weekend, they allowed it again on Friday and Saturday nights.(Maybe because downtown is close to a ghost town) so I took my '65 GT-350 out. I needed to gas it up, pulled into the local Costco. The attendant looked at the car, right at the radio block off plate and asked "Does it have the original stereo in it?" Made it down town, which was absolutely bumper to bumper. Saw guys I hadn't seen in years. The car drew more than it's share of interest. People could be classified into three groups 1 Car people who knew what they were looking at, understood how rare a 65 GT-350 is. 2 People who didn't have a clue. 3 People who knew something about cars, but did not know about Shelbys. There is a local guy who has a '65 clone. It's a nice car, with a 302 with aftermarket injection. He spent a lot of money on it. He parked it next to mine, had a guy ask "What's the difference between the two cars?" I told him "About one hundred and twenty five thousand dollars" I had to weather the usual questions and inane statements from some people, but all in all it was a really good time.
It was a good time. I was amazed by the Friday night turnout. We arrived downtown early, about 7:30 when only a few cars were out. Parked for an hour to visit with others when I saw your car - remembered seeing it at a local show last year and thought we would try to find you. Thanks for your time - I enjoyed the visit. The next cruise is planned for Friday July 9th - we will likely check it out again. Dan. 1967 Shelby GT-350
Saturday night had an even bigger turnout. Apparently, some of the out-of-town people didn't get the word that it was over at 11:00. City had to close the avenue because there were so many cars. I left at 10:30, took 1/2 hour to get to I-82. (Approximately 16 blocks) Only thing missing was a '67 Shelby Bill
If it works out, we will try to be at the cruise on Friday July 8th. I would expect we will show up earlier (7:30 or so) and find a parking spot. Perhaps you will be able to join us. Dan
