I am looking for information on CSX3060 going on the block at the B-J auction next month. Why can't it be titled in CA.????

That is one of the "Completion" cars that were "found" in 91 or so...
Perhaps Cal DMV doesn't like their rules to be bent.

Mike thanks for the reply. Was wondering what a "completion" car was.

After making 21 full comp 427s (2 prototypes and 19 reg comps) and 31 semi comps or street comps....which ever you would like to call them, Carroll Shelby was left with the remainder of the chassis #s that were designated to become Comps and then S/Cs. In the late 80s to early 90s, Carroll built the rest of the chassis numbers to full s/c spec with the exception of thicker body, MIG arc welded chassis, thicker main frame rails, fuel cell, added insulation, and updated A-arm bushings.

Although some felt the need to spread rumors that these chassis were stored away, in reality, they were brand new vehicles with simply a chassis # from 1965.

Furthermore, the cars cant be titled in California because the DMV had a big problem with new cars being titled as 1965s, after being led to Shelby's operations through an unnamed 'expert' according to the registry.

This car (3060) was bought new by a Japanese collector.

I also love the fact that it is painted the same blue as the "supersnake":noway: while going to BJ!!!

I actually wouldn't be surprised if this car sells for as much or more than one of the other two legit 427 cobra street cars going up for auction at BJ simply because some poor unsuspecting buyer could mistake it for the real thing:guitar:

I like the car and i will admit that is worth substantially more than a 4000 car but i don't feel that it should come anywhere near the real deal....and mark my words, it certainly might!

    Hope this helps!
    Best Regards,
    Vern

If you are at all interested in that car, the first question you might pursue is....which CSX3060 is it that is being sold? ;) B)

Only "The Club Formerly known as SAAC" can help you there...

It was confusing as a cobra could have been listed as a Ford...shelby....or cobra for its brand....i had to go through all the saturday lots just to find both as the search doesnt work very well....also 3279 was listed a very long time after the other cars....hence the .1

There have been more than a few CSX2xxx & CSX3xxx cars that have or had the same CSX number. That's why the Registrar is the first person to contact when you're interested in purchasing a Cobra or a vintage Shelby for that matter.

Ya...but with a completion car....it would seem dumb to make a fake....it at least makes sense from the criminals point of view to fake a 2000 or 3000 car.

I think i have seen this car...actually i took some time to really go over it if this is the same car i am thinking of. It was stored at Mike McClusky's shop in Torrance...he told me it was a one of the continuation cars and was owned by a Japanese collector who was interested in selling it. It was a beautiful blue color as i recall. Very nice car...the fit and finish was very nice and clean. He had a few original cobras in his shop under restoration so there was something to compare it to. At 6'5" I was disappointed when i realized i didnt have a snowballs chance in hell of fitting in the car.

I have photos of two separate cars that claim the same number. This was discussed on CC a few years ago.

If you are in anyway serious, your next step should be talking to the *AAC Registrar.

Another CSX 3060 is advertised in the January 2008 Hemmings Motor News, page 634, top left corner of the page. It's listed as a 1967 in New York.
Hope it's a serial number misprint.

That is not one of the "two" I was talking about....

That one is a replica (with a very funky dash)...that has chosen to take CSX3060 as VIN number. Trust me...seeing the pictures, it could not be mistaken for an original. :laf:

He has some guts to use that # when there are already at least 2 cars with it!

Damn Noo Yawker.... and from L.I. to boot. :p :p

We had a big discussion about this a few years ago on CC. I can't recall the chronology, but I can retrieve it when the CC server is back online.

One went to Japan, I think...and then it was thought to be lost in a container or something, so another turned up, somehow.... I could be mixing it up with another story.

I'll get the facts (or the rumors) and post them here
