    Where is it?
    Does it have one?
The trans is still in the car, can I see it from below or do I need to remove it?

    Thanks

Indiviual parts and assemblies will have dates. Are you attempting to confirm the trans is is original to the car? IF so you will not be able to see the short version of the VIN stamped on the trans.

I want to confirm it is correct. Practically everything has correct dates - block, heads, manifolds, fuel pump, water pump, etc. But I don't know anything about the trans. Where can I find the date code or vin number?

There should be a small pad on top, just in front of the tailshaft.

There are casting numbers on the housing, but I dont think they will help you much.

I believe the case has a "casting clock" but only indicates shift not year. As Jeff and Pete mentioned VIN is on top and will be in format of 8Txxxxxx, the last 6 being the Ford sequential #. Is it a 500 or KR? Here is a 500 C6. You can see the clocks on the lower right of the main case,
