have a different name? Like maybe Marquis? Does anybody know anything about this and if so when did the name change and why did it change? Thanks, J.B.B.
It used to be called "the Marque" (Mark) I'n not sure why the name changed other than the SAAC director board thought that it was more historical to use the name "Shelby American" as that use to be the name of the Shelby American employee newsletter when the Shelbys were make at the plant in the airport in L.A.
The Marque started out as the magazine of SOA (old club that existed before SAAC). I am not sure of the arangement, but SAAC printed the Marque's at some time, then with issue #31 (I think) they switched the format and the name. There were hard feelings between SAAC and the old SOA people. I have a bunch of reprints of about 15 of the old SOA magazines.
I have a Shelby Owners Assoc. decal on my vent window looks like it has been there a while anyone know what years they were around as a club.
SAAC acquired their (SOA) assets and membership list after a meeting in California. It was not a pleasant meeting. Rather ugly with several individuals unnecessarily being treated quite badly in the powerplay to gain control. shlby66
hi Magstar - any chance of being able to take a digital picture and posting it here - would love to see what it looks like? thanks.
I remember the discussion amongst the Shelby owners in our local Beach Ford Mustang Club about which Shleby club each of the members were going to support. We had only recently gotten the Shelby and had not gotten around to joining SOA, so we just joined SAAC.
Not sure how to post a pic on here If you send me your e-mail address I can send it to you and you can post it.
HI Magstar.....did you ever manage to take a picture of that decal and send it to me to post........i never received anything....... try me at snelby@xtra.co.nz cheers.
I guess these are the little details Wallace Wyss is so passionately seeking...! all overthrows of Governments and organizations are ugly. for instance, who would have thought 60 years ago that Japan would be such a friend and crucial part of our existence today??
There was a Cobra club in existance before the one you mentioned. I don't have the name in front of me but it was based in Grosse Pointe, MI., which is coincidentally where some of the Ford family lives; but I don't think any of their family members were in the club. This was when big block Cobras were only worth about $7000. They published a little vertical format register --roughly 18 pages including the covers--which had tiny little type and notations on the different cars they had tracked down by serial number. It is interesting to read their register and compare individual notations with those listed in SAAC's giant coffee table sized book. I would expect a heavyweight Cobra researcher to have a copy of this booklet because there are so few lists of Cobra serial numbers done back in the Sixties or Seventies. One wonders if, being in the same town as Ford officials, if the organizers of that club had any inside knowledge of Cobra chassis numbers or just did their own research from scratch. I don't know if they ever had a magazine.
