I have seen aluminum oil pans for a 351 windsor. www.hawaiiracing.com. Ask for Joe. He makes awesome stroker motors and has custom aluminum oil pans for all applications. I remember seeing a 351 stroked to a 427 with a custom pan getting shipped to a guy putting it in a cobra. Hope this helps. CoralSnake - On another subject, since you are the 68 guru/historian, my friend mentioned some 68 GT 500's came from the factory with 390's. He said something about a strike or shortage and some cars got shipped without 428's. True?
Yep - I own one. They were not original pieces however, they are aftermarket. They look exactly like the 289 piece. For some reason, they were cast without enough room to clear the crank counterwieghts for cylinders 4/8. It caused me alot of headaches. Anyway, it's garage art now - displayed on the wall!
Oh, I was looking for the COBRA oil pan, do they have those on there? Or are they all custom? I'm too darn lazy to look. I have read some stuff about 390 - GT500s, but I am not sure if it's for real. There was a plant strike in 1968. Only four 68 Shelbys were built before the strike. Everything else was after it was over. So the strike is most likely NOT in the equation. The Registry reports a car as possibly having a 390 based on crappy performance during a road test. This could have been many things. I think it is much more likely the 390 story is based on a couple of things. One, misleading engine codes (S code - 428 PIs) and two, the presence of the AUTOLITE 390 cid carbs on some 428 cars. The carbs were supposed to be removed, but several cars slipped through, never receiving the Holley C8ZX-A carbs. I would think the Shelby Club confirm or deny this rumor. They have the IBM punch cards and warranty information. Only a really good knowledge of the specific car and an internal inspection might help.
So then the answer is probably a "No"...if there had been GT 500's with 390's it might have been more widely publicized. Thanks.
