ebay--"right to buy" an 07 GT500

Discussion in 'Shelby Mustang List' started by DLen1261@aol.com, Feb 22, 2006.

  1. eBay Motors: 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500 (item 4615899685 end time
    Mar-04-06 08:45:38 PST)

BUT--"This is an auction for the rights to buy a brand new 2007 Ford Mustang
Shelby Cobra GT500.  If you win this auction you will still be required to
purchase the vehicle at full window sticker."

So...they're asking for an opening bid of $50K for the "right to pay full
sticker" IN ADDITION to the auction cost, eh?

Well, I guess we'll see how many fish...oops, I mean "early adaptors"...
    there are for this one.

Or am I just being too cynical about this? ;>{D

I saw a couple of auctions for people selling their "place on a dealer list" on eBay - didn't see how it turned out, but the one I looked at was already bid up to $7k. All the auction said was you get on the dealer list for the chance to buy at "MSRP plus dealer adjusted price". He he, I wonder if the sucker that was bidding realised his money was going to go ontop of a probably $20k markup...

I thought the wording of those auctions was a little misleading, but this one is pretty clear - and if they pull it off, power too them! A lot of people have been proclaiming "I would never pay over MSRP for a GT500", while forgetting that it is a little tricky to pick up an original GT500 for the $4k sticker price they came out with! My only concern is that greedy dealers will kill production, like they did with the Ford GT.

I read a great memo from ford about marketting the GT, where they said "90% of GT buyers will walk into the dealership in the first three months of production, but we won't have the vehicles to sell to them until at least a year later". A good philosophy, there are several Ford dealers here that I will _never_ buy a car from, simply because of their attitiude over the new GT500. Unfortunately, the only dealer here I really trust is closing down before GT500 production starts :-< In any case, I have heard rumours of a 2008 GT500 "King of the Road" edition, so whatever happens, I am hanging on now to see if that turns out to be true...

As an aside - my Yellow GT500KR is currently getting stripped to the bone! Yes, I'm finally embarking on the body'n'paint restoration, with the work being done by The Mustang Ranch in Santa Clara. I have decided to go with the LeMans stripes. Hopefully she should be all shiny and ready just about the time the first 2007's hit the streets. All advice for the restoration process is welcome!
