Edsel Ford II, grandson of the founder and learning the ropes of Ford as assistant managing director of Ford Australia. Edsel Ford made the suggestion that they build Cobras, all white with blue striping, special interiors, alloy wheels and Cobra emblems. 'totally American' image ,the serial numbers would be consecutive from 00001 to 00400, it was probably more convenient to identify them this way.Thirty of the cars - 00002 to 00031 - were built as Bathurst Specials with Option 97. ( Try find one ) this in real life viewing is one beautiful car ........... pictures of Edsel Ford II in Australia and Car ,
this car has the American Flavour and ford histroy behind it ,have a look at it racing all four wheels of the ground nice picture .Enjoy J L

Keep it coming, man! Cool stuff down under. That one would look great in my garage. Was it equipped with a 302 or 351?

This no doubt got Shelby's attention

I am sure Shelby was miffed when he heard about it.
but he had sold the name Cobra for one dollar years earlier to Ford. But what really lit the fire was when Ford later resurrected the name GT350 for a special run of cars and the result was a lawsuit.
The engine of the Australian car, a "Cleveland" 351, was built stronger for some reason down there
which is why an Australian block 351 is preferred by Pantera owners though it probably weighs 50 lbs. more than the one made in Cleveland.
