Hey guys, I was wondering what the '65 and '66 GT350s put out for 1/4 mile times stock. Ive seen low 15 seconds, but I think this was for an automatic car. Ive heard about 289 Hi Pos leaving the factory and running 14 flats with 4.11 gears, completely stock. What have you guys found in your experience? I dont know if any of you guys ever bring your cars to the track, and if you do im sure you probably dont want to push them too hard, but any numbers you have would be excellent.
Ok, this is for my 67 GT 350. So add 300-400 pounds over a 65/66 car. Stock it would run 15.20-15.30's all day. After installing headers, a bigger carb (750 cfm) a little head work (shaved .030, springs, valve job) it ran 14.56 beast and always between 14.60-14.80's with open headers, no slicks. Oh, this was back in 1971/1972.
I concur. My bog stock '67 GT350 ran mid 15s with 4-speed, 3.89 rear, tri-Y headers and street tires. David
Depending on the car and how much abuse the driver was willing to put it through, times varied from low 15's to mid 14's. The over ride traction bars on a 65 were the forerunner of the modern 4 link suspension. These cars didn't tend to suffer from startline traction problems like a lot of the big block muscle cars did. Car Life Magazine devoted an entire issue to the Mustangs and Shelbys. They listed these times and speeds: 65 Mustang, 271 H.P. 15.9 85 MPH 65 GT-350 14.7 90 MPH Those are very respectable times by 1965 standards.
