Finishing up my GT 350 and have a question about exhausts. I am ok at the front and back end, with correct manifolds, as well as tips, but I am replacing everything between and need some advice. 1. Do I go with an aftermarket system or have a stainless system bent to fit the car. On the first option, I have heard that these systems seldom fit very well, and do not flow well. On the second, while they flow well and would not rust, it certainly would not be an original type exhaust. 2. Mufflers - any advice? This car will be a very nice driver, and wherever possible I have tried to use the original parts or NOS parts. Thanks, Richard
Richard, I had the exhust on my 67gt500 made from standard alumized (sp)..steel and it was done in 3" from the tri Y's to the 3" tips..I also had the crossover "X" type installed and used the 3 chamber flowmasters, was told the 2 chamber would get old fast. Unless you like LOUD all the time..Well I love the sound and at cruising its perfect and when I get on it up to 5K its Awsome sound. The crossover and 3" pipes gives it a powerfull hollow type sound you have to hear..I like it so much I took my gt350 and had it done. Should be used with headers with 3"+ collectors..My 500 used 2.5 inch. worked great anyway. But the real difference was with the gt350, it now sounds like a BIG BLOCK!..Nice crack ring to it..Used the same tips as the 67..The 68 tips reduced the 3" dia to 2.5...Nawww...Only draw back was the cost of $1000 ea. and also make sure you have the shop install a 3 bolt flange right behind the muffler so you can take it down to install transmissions etc...To me its worth every penny...But Myne are drivers... Cevon, Wish I could hear your exhaust For mine, I used "Dr Gas" 2.5" aluminized exhaust with an X-pipe feeding Walker Dynomax mufflers (notice the oversized flat chambered pieces near the frame rails at the header exit). I wanted the most power with the least noise. I used "Tennessee" Stainless tips (3") and it came out great.
