I accidentally deleted a couple posts about garage lifts last weekend but I think I've got them summed up as follows:
Can anyone tell me what the installation is like? What does it take to assemble one or do they typically come assembled? Do you have to bolt them into the concrete or can they just sit on top without any sort of anchor?
I installed 2 of the twin post lifts in my garage a coupe of month's ago. Mine bolt to the concrete with 6 3/4 anchors on each pillar. It took myself and the neighbor 2 days to install and we took our time. Each lift weighed in at about 1500 pounds, they are american made and capacity is 9000 lbs each and they have a clear floor, cable run overhead. Lift are 142 inches high, ceiling clearence is not a problem for me, they do have one that is 9 1/2 foot high, but is does have the cables that run along the floor. Real pain when using a tranny jack. If anyone would like photo's just let me know and I will post some, as well if anyone close buys one I can help with install at no cost. I do have the tools for the job and the typical install usually takes less than 8 hours with two folks. Puchased from www.americanautomotiveequipment.com in New York for $1,600 each. Not sure what cost is at this time. Steve
I HAVE THE EXACT BEND PAK AS PICTURED. I HAVE 119" CIELING NO GARAGE DOOR IN THE WAY. i HAVE A BIG STEEL BEAM IN MY WAY BUT i BELIEVE YOU COULD GET AWAY WITH 112"-113" DEPENDING WHAT YOU PUT ON IT. I HAVE A 67 ON TOP AND A 68 CONV ON BOTTOM AND JUST MAKES IT. THESE UNITS HAVE A SAFETY RATCHET LOCK ON THEM AND YOU NEED TO GO UP ABOUT 2" HIGHER IN ORDER TO LET IT DOWN ON THE SAFTY LOCKS (YOU WOULD NOT WANT THE HYDROLICS TO HOLD IT, IT WOULD CREEP DOWN) iF YOU ARE A LITTLE SHORT CONSIDER SOMETHING SHORTER ON THE BOTTOM, I HAD MY 4 WHEEL ATV'S ON THE BOTTOM FOR A WHILE. I DID A BUNCH OF RESEARCH ON THESE, BEND PAKS SEEM TO BE REAL GOOD YOU SEE THEM ON SOME OF THE TV CARS SHOWS. yOU HAVE TO WATCH SOME OF THE REAL CHEAP ONES THEY ARE KNOWN TO HAVE THE RAMPS SAG AFTER SOME LONG TERM STORAGE. THEY CAN BE BOLTED OR LEFT FREE STANDING, I GOT CASTERS FOR MINE THAT ALLOWS ME TO MOVE MINE AROUND,(WITH NOTHING ON IT) THAT I FEEL WAS A GOOD INVESTMENT. ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS MAKE UP A HEAVY 220 EXTENTION CORD AND WITH THE CASTERS YOU CAN MOVE IT AROUND ON YOUR GARAGE. YOU TAKE THE CASTERS OFF. I HAVE MINE FREE STANDING ALTHOUGH HOLD DOWN BOLTS ARE INCLUDED. THEY ARE WORK TO ASEMBLE, TOOK ME AND MY FATHER IN LAW ABOUT 10 HOURS TO ASSEMBLE. HEAVY AS A BITCH, GOOD DESIGN I MAY GET ANOTHER ONE. GET IT DELIVERED BUT WHEREVER IT LAYS IS WHERE YOU WILL UNCRATE IT CRATED WEIGHT IS LIKE 1500 LBS I HAD MINE DELIVERED TO A FRIENDS PLACE WHO HAD A FORKLIFT AND HE SAT IT ON MY TRAILER. THAT IS WHERE IT WAS UNCRATED. UPS WILL NOT DELIVER TO YOUR FRONT DOOR. IT IS SOME SERIOUD FREIGHT. IF YOU HAVE THE HEIGHT IT DOULBLES YOU GARAGE CAPACITY. GOOD LUCK
I have a 4 post Backyard buddy and it has been great. It is freestanding and I have wheels I can clamp on to move it around. I move it outside to powerwash the undersides of my projects. One you have one you wonder how you got along without one....Imagine changing your oil while standing up..
Thanks for the additional info jag and Charley. I had not even thought about the casters and being able to move it around. Now I must have one!
