When I bought the car, 15 years ago, the car had some kind of super comp headers. During restoration, I put back TRi Y from hedman. This exhaust hits the pitman arm and limits its travel.

I've just bought a set of dough thorley tri Y that have a different collector shape: Is someone running this set up and have issue with the pitman arm (Should have asked before ordering, I know )

I bought too a set of side exhaust mufflers from JBA, is someone running those too? Do I need to prepare to be deaf?

The car has a full 2.5 exhasut system, with dr gas X pipe, flowmaster 2 chambers and I feel like this sound is too common since everybody has flowmaster now, that why I want to change.

Sorry about my english but I try my best:blush:

I don't have a Shelby, but I do have Doug Thorley Tri-Y's (love 'em). Right now they're on a coupe with power steering, and I had to use an extended bracket for the power steering ram, but when they were on my fastback which didn't have power steering, they had no issues.

Since you have a Shelby, you probably have longer pitman and idler arms than my fastback, so that may be your problem. Have you considered ordering a set of Tri-Y's from Branda?

As far as the side exhaust, I run 2 1/2" pipes with a conventional cross pipe (not an X design) to glasspacks and it dumps out the side in front of the back tires. It's louder than out the back, especially when there are tall buildings or concrete road barriers on each side, but it's not deafening... it's music, sweet music.

I just completed my exhaust system on my 65 Mustang last night. I had used the common cheap Tri-Y's at first, but ran into a number of issues. Flange leaks, Pitman arm hitting on the tubes. Equalizer Bar hitting the header. The Collector rubbing the Bellhousing.

I bought a set of Dougs Tri-Y's ( Spin off from Doug Thorley Headers) after getting fed up over the Junk headers's I had installed.
They fit "GREAT". They easily clear the extended Pitman arm (quick steer kit). The Equalizer bar has plenty of clearance. The flange's are thicker. Even better, I've plenty of ground clearance. The collectors don't hang pass the frame rails.

Like you, I searched around for information and found very little about these headers in a real world situation.

    I'm very pleased with mine.

    Marty.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had exactly the same problems on my car, and the pleasure to grind my lakewood bellhousing too, one collector up, one down and an odd exaust line routing twisting around the x pipe.

I had the same problems on another mustang two weeks ago, I tried to install a set of headers made in nowhere land and was one inch from the H pipe... took a set of JBA and works like a dream. may be 500 $ more but in fact a 150$ full loss.

I will try to install them, I'm really fed up with the impact on the collector and the rusty aspect of the section even if the headers are (poorly) coated.

Anybody about the JBA side exhaust? just heard them yet on JBA site.
