Sup guys, sorry for a stupid question but just what does the "350" and the "500" it the GT's mean, is it engine cubes or what?.....I have a graffics idea I'm thinking of since the Shelby Dakota is in its last stage of paint and I need to know what that part means.
When the first GT350s were being assembled the body assembly shop was about 350 feet away from where the engines were put into the cars. Later when Shelby introduced big blocks they needed a bigger number and they just went up to 500. It has nothing to do with engine size or horse power. Hope this helps Ranger Jerry
So, it is kinda like "snake oil". Makes things seem bigger than they are. It is true the "350" name came from the distance of the engine shop to the assembly line.
Well how bout that, Thats a real hoot!.....What I'm trying to do is bring my Shelby Dakota into the modern era but still keep the Shelby style and them, I can't stand the stripes that came on the truck but I want to stick with a simple, clean stripe with the Shelby design, I like the stripes on the GT 350 and 500 cars but I'm at a cross roads about what to put there, should it be GT something or SD (for Shelby Dakota) something ..... y'all got any ideas? because the distance from my shop at home to the paint shop here at my work, well, I don't think the side of the truck is long enough to fit all them numbers in.
A fellow club members has a black Ford F-350 that he pulls his Shelby around with. He took two sets of rocker panal stripes and placed them along the bottom of his truck changing the lettering to read F-350. It looks great! I think the letters spelling out SHELBY inside the striping would look cool. You could spell Shelby in tape or use the chrome letter emblems like on a 1968 shelby. I would like to see pictures of your finished project. Ranger Jerry
