Hello! I live in Illinois and have had a 1969 Shelby GT350 for over 20 years. When I got it it was sun faded candy apply red and came from Puerto Rico. I re-painted several years ago (back to its original royal maroon) It does have the original, somewhat worn, interior. I just learned I have one of only 78 unique paint/trim codes for that year....specifically a "Blackout Hood Treatment" Does anyone know what that means? I have search for photos on the internet and found a few 69 Shelby ads that claim to have this treatment, but in the photos I only see a stock color hood (red, maroon, whatever) .... nothing black. Thanks for having me... a fellow Shelby Enthusiast, Patrick
I'm guessing from your post that you got a copy of a Marti report or a Ford report on your car - or at least decoded the door tag with some help Because of this you found a "5" included in the exterior paint code - and that lead you to believe you had a blacked out hood original. Sorry but your car did not - non Shelby received one. Where the confusion comes in is that Ford ordered all of the Shelbys as Mach I's on paper and then deleted parts and processes to get the cars where they wanted them before they got shipped to AO Smith. And since the exterior code stamped on the door tag was still following the Mach I pattern and options it got a "5" along with the exterior paint code. Ford though deleted the black out on the hood and cowl. Hope this helps BTW I'm building 9F02M481897 and use to own 9F02R480218. What car do you have??
Thanks to Snakepit for your answer RE: Blackout Hood Option 69 Shelby I'm not sure how to use the forum, so I am hoping this gets out to "Snakepit"...The person who answered my question... just wanted to say "Thank you" for the information regarding my "blackout Hood" option on my 69 Shelby.... Since the Blackout Hood was to be a real part of the original Mach 1, which was used by Ford & Shelby to created my Shelby, I guess I'll call it a "Ghost Option from the Past" ..... Thank you again..
