Things are starting to come together now. I'm nearing retirement and wil shortly have more time to devote to my cars. I purchased my Shelby GT in April and am having a great time breaking it and me into more modern performance. The Shelby is my daily driver and what a pleasure it is. In a short while I'll probably be upgrading the 4.6 with a Shelby supercharger, but since it is my daily driver, it won't become a radical machine. My other car is a 57 Ford Custom 300, which is primarily used on the weekends. It is set up to cruise, show, take surfing and on rare occassions take down to the track and put another quarter mile on it. The 57 has a 351W, Edelbrock RPM cam, heads, intake, etc.; with a t-10 4-speed and other performance and show oriented equipment. My first Mustang was a 65, ordered in July 1964, and delivered in November (production had a hard time keeping up with the orders). I put 49,000 miles on that car quarter mile at a time, but I was only 22. I always wanted a Shelby, but back then was only making $1.25/hr and couldn't handle the car payments and the healthy insurance premiums that went along with owning a really neat car. I can still hardly believe I now have one. Bob
Welcome Bob from one little corner of the community! I like your story, thanks for sharing. I too wanted a Shelby all my life, it took me until my 52 year of life to finally get one and like you it was a GT. Enjoy the ride!
Thanks for the welcome. I neglected to post a photo of my Shelby. Here it is along with a shot of my first Mustang. I had a blast at Lion's Drag Strip when I was 22. I had another blast a month ago at the AutoClub Drag Strip in Fontana, CA. 42 years later and I still felt like a teenager. I guess its never too late to have fun. Bob
