So, your a 17 year old High School Kid.........:lmao: , I guess thats why you and I agree on a lot of Topics. I am a 16 Year Old Kid traped in a 46 Year Old Body. All I can say is, because of that, I get to play with hotter Cars and cooler Women......

Alrighty guys, i guess it is time to completely come clean. I got into shelbys when i was nine years old, just reading every book i could get my hands on, most of the time twice. I currently do not own a shelby, but i am working on that. I drive a ford, well ok, its a volvo but at least they are owned by Ford! Its a 6 banger, not all that exciting.
The reason that i have not come clean with my age is that i never wanted to be treated like a 17 year old kid. I wanted to be taken seriously, people knowing that you are seventeen usually will discount you for being so. I entrusted only a very select amount of people with my age because i did not want it to leak out. Some of those people who i trusted turned out not to be the people that i thought they were so there ya have it. I never said i was some false age, just let everyone assume what they may!
The sad thing is that this attitude is what keeps other guys my age from joining the forums and really getting into the hobby. If i told you that i was trying to end the negativity between saac and teamshelby because it is boring to read than i would be lying. The fact is that young kids will not get into this hobby if all they see is such negativity. I have a few friends who are into shelbys and muscle cars in general who are my age. However, when i try to get them to join the forums, they dont want to because of the behavior over the whole lawsuit.
Its not that i didnt tell, you guys just didnt ask....;)
    Best Regards,
    Vern

    Vernon,
If somebody wants to poop on you they will use anything handy.. thick glasses, short, funny sounding voice... whatever. Ignore them. When you get older and the reality of life tans your hide.. you will understand. In the mean time forget about what other people think... just do the best you can ..and use your head.
If you really want to get one of these things, and work really hard for it ...it will happen.
    good luck!
I personally don't care how old you are.. there are plenty a jerks out there three times your age..

    Hey Vern
I know what you mean about age being a problem for some. During my early days of Shelby ownership I was a young Kid 20's who took interest in knowing 65's better than most Club Judges. Most didn't want to be corrected by a kid since they were older and experienced. LOL I was told many times that just because I owned a car didn't make me the expert. That attitude steered me away from SAAC and national Mustang Club of America. I have never shown a car of mine at any events sponsored by those clubs since. Don't get me wrong I am not trying to put down these clubs because there have been a lot of years past since those thing happened and I am sure those guys are not around anymore but if they are they should take notice. Don't treat anyone like they are an idiot just because you are " older and more experienced " . I continue to learn something new every day and I feel I can contribute and give something back to those interested in preserving the interest in Shelbys and Mustangs. I'll end by saying "My name is Steve and I am NOT smarter than a 5th grader".
    Thanks for your interest

    Vern,

My first reaction was "seventeen? No way". I've got to say that you don't come off like a typical seventeen year old. I would have never guessed. For that matter you don't write much like you're seventeen either. Glad to see that someone of such young years "gets it". There may yet be hope for the younger generation.

Hey Steve.......... I couldn't help but laugh when I read this.......... Those kids are smaaaaaaaaaart. I hate that Show.....LOL.

The new attutude at SAAC has caused me NOT the re-join. Just because someone is young does not mean they don't know what they are talking about.

I noticed it, (I posted the question that prompted your answer) I just did not care. Their are plenty of old and young jerks. I joined SAAC-MCR when I was 19 and was treated great. In fact, I think I was treated better than most members as some of the senior members took me under their wing and gave me great advice. The best thing they told me was to do what ever was necessary to keep my Shelby, as most of them had stories of cars they regrettably sold. 20 years later through business start ups, marriage, and 3 kids I still have my Shelby.

I think its great that a young man has such an interest in the hobby! The only way any organization grows is by bringing in new folks. Alot of guys who have Shelby's now once started out young. I got my first Shelby when I was 17 and was elected Mayor of my hometown when I was 21. The only person who will ever hold you back from achieving your dreams is yourself. As a side notewhhich is your favorite Shelby?

Favorite shelby? How can a guy be forced to choose?
    Favorite Shelby Stang...65 GT350 or 67.
Cobra......Lately i have favored 2019, it was the first dragonsnake after being used as a factory PR car (appearing as a red 260 street car featured in the original early cobra brochure) and appearing in Viva Las Vegas with Elvis. Car is completely unrestored and untouched.

Actually my favorite would have to be every year..............all lined up in my driveway!

It is relieving to hear such positive response!

    Best Regards,
    Vern

Yeah, I felt I had to post this after I read what DD said about you on SAAC Forums. I think SAAC is going down hill lately with all the CS Bashing. Thats what I really like about this Site.......no Attacks.

Hey ya know he can say what he wants to say. I was a bit shocked that he of all people would use someones age against them.
But hey, we should all just forget about the attacks on one another. That is all in the past.
Lets all keep to the discussion about the cars, after all, that is what this forum has always been about even through this whole situation. We can leave the hateful content for others to discuss somewhere else.

You guys are awesome and this site is awesome!

    Best Regards,
    Vern
