I've had my Shelby for 22 years, restored by mostly myself (not the paint or bodywork!). Also, I need advise as to how to un-mothball #998. It is in Washington State, and I've been in Florida for 4 years. Didn't intend to be here this long! I've got the repro bias ply Goodyears on it, should I 'treat' them to make the rubber softer, before re-airing them? Can you put nitrogin in instead of air? I know it's an absolute sin to leave it sit. My head is hung in shame.
To the last post yes that is very true and I almost missed that. When I got my 07 Shelby it had new rears but old fronts on. I was getting ready to just buy a set of takeoffs from the 2007 program to have a spare set of rims and rear tires. But after a while I realized the fronts were originals and belts broke in them from sitting age etc. The tread was still great which is why I didn't totally understand them going bad. The dealership that put the new fronts on for me told me if I had continue to drive the car with the bad tires the front driver one would have blown out soon. So even before he told me that I thought about the age. I opted to order brand new rubber two new original Goodyear F1 Supercar tires for $282 from Discount Tire free shipping. Also Tire Rack had them a few dollars cheaper but not sure on shipping. Now I'm sure those tires aren't brand new but I doubt they are from 2007. And I went ahead and bought two new replacement rims for the front as mine got some curb rash. Keeping it fresh and original for the time being. Now if I can just find a dealer to put me in a clutch...well...that clutches! lol Dan.
