I met a guy at Monterey who saves a lot of stuff on Holman & Moody. He says that in 1967 Ford picked up everything at Shelby American and moved it to H & M. I know later on H & M sold nine Ford GTs so they must have been a repository of some sort . Of course Shelby lost the lease on the airport faciity in '67 and maybe didn't want to pay storage on old race cars and parts or did I miss something in Shelby history and there was some other reason Ford took all the stuff away? I had the book Holman & Moody but don't remember reading much about Shelby in that book. Anybody know if it's true that Ford cleaned out Shelby of race cars & parts in '67 and sent it all to H & M? In old interviews, Carroll said he was pretty much tired of dealing with the Ford beauracy. In those same interviews he said that if he ever got back into doing car stuff again, that it would never be with Ford..... Well, we all know how that turned out. There was definately a stock car guys vs the sports car guys rivalry that was going on. It is hard to say if it was more of Shelby gave the stuff up, or Ford took it away.....
Since Ford owned the Ford GT's, they probably dispensed of them in any manner they chose. Its possible they did send them to Holman-Moody. As far as Shelby's operation, his racing company moved to Gardena, CA after the closing of the LAX facility. The stockcar - sports car rivalry was exploited to great extent by Ford. Holman - Moody getting a lot more support from Ford than Shelby. However, Shelby prepared Ford GT's never lost a race to a H-M prepared Ford GT. Basically, Shelbys group kicked Holman-Moodys butt in compitetion. shlby66
I remember reading in the interviews that Shelby wanted the small block Ford GT's made lighter and more nimble. It was the other groups that wanted the 427 cars. But Shelby was given the tool to work with and made the best of them. The results speak for themselves.
