In 1987 when I bought my 67 Shelby there was an owners manual in the glove box. It was a little dirty on the outside but perfect inside. No writing anywhere in the book and it seemed as if it had rarely been opened. It has a red car on the cover. How do I determine if this is a reproduction or an original.
I wish I could show you. But the Owners Manual I have is a repop. But, according to SAAC, most if not all Shelby literature printed "back in the day" had a union stamp on it. The stamp is hardly the size of a 1/4" square. So, look for the union lable. The stamp is usually on the inside cover, or first or last pages. Also, according to the story, Shelby ran out of owners manuals late in the 67production run, and a late "batch" was printed without the color cover. The color was some sort of butterscotch. I'm not sure I believe this. I even have a repop of that one also.
I've seen both styles also. I don't see any stamp anywhere so I assume its a repop. I wasn't sure if they were even reproducing them back then.
The original 67 manual's have perferated warranty page's in the back of the manual for easy tear out for warranty service. They also have two glued in sheet's on the back cover that were added after printing. The repop's do not have these two unique feature's.The union bug has nothing to do with it being original or not.
Why don't you contact John Barnes of Balliston Spa, NY as he is quite an authority on Shelby literature. He has collected and sold this stuff for years and probably has more Shelby autographed items than anyone else on the planet. He usually advertises in SAAC's Snakebite Bulletin. shlby66
2334 is correct that is the most certain way to tell if it's original. I have a couple of original ones and I can't see any union label. The perforations start on page 49 if I remember correctly? None of the repops have the perforations.
