How to remove license plate lamps

    How are the lamps removed above the rear license plate on a 69 Shelby? I'm fearful to turn them counterclockwise from the rear without being sure thats how its done. I'm trying to remove the tail light assembly and there is a jumper wire across the two lamps. Thanks
