The KEY word being "Kinda". I Kinda feel sorry for those who bought a new 2007 Shelby GT 500 "Over Sticker" and are now trying to sell them. I see a lot of used ones where the owners are asking way over what you can buy a new 2008 model for. Maybe Kelly Blue Book will include the "Over MSRP" amount as a new "Option Package" so the value of their Shelby's will include that amount. David
This happens with every new 'hot' model....PT Barnum put it best, "There's a sucker born every minute." It really just boils down to how much it is worth to you to have the latest magazine toy. I have seen most car guys wait the initial storm out and pay MSRP or below because they want the car, not the image. Remember when Miatas first hit? 5k over sticker for about 3-4 months, then salesman calling..."Uh, I know I kinda pi$$ed you off, but you still interested in a Miata--got 10 at MSRP!?!" Exact same thing when I went looking for a GT, except 25-30k over MSRP! Waited, bought a new one for MSRP and they were glad to sell. I am sure they are lining up now for the Challengers, tomorrow for the Camaros. I wonder how many GT500's will show up as trades for the new wunderkinds, and what they will go for.
A friend of mine is waiting for a new 'Plum Crazy Purple Challenger". Said he will pay what it takes to get one............. David.
You know, not everyone who bought one over sticker bought it for the "image" or to try to make money on a resale. I paid over sticker for mine simply because I thought this might possibly be my last and only chance to buy a new shelby mustang. If I knew absolutely for certain that they would continue to manufacture them for the next few years I would've probably held off and waited to see if the prices dropped but I was afraid if I waited I could lose my chance. I was too young to buy a new one in the 60's so I settled for used ones (and I wish I still had them) but I always wished I would have been able to own one since new. I don't plan on selling mine, I bought it to keep and enjoy, so the high ADM I paid won't have any long term effect on my enjoyment of the car.
Hi Doug, I like your response to this thread. Can't find fault with your logic and in the overall scheme of things you will always come out way ahead for the exact reasons why you bought the new Shelby.None of us thru the Sixties and Seventies ever thought these cars would command the prices that we've been seeing these last 20 years especially the last few years!Enjoy and take care of your new Baby. Hey how come No 80's car? You've "kinda"got all the other decades covered! Lol Kenn
Thanks Kenn. I will enjoy it and take care of it. I've only got a little over 2K miles on it so far but they've been fun filled miles. I did have a 91 GT mustang I bought new but I had to trade it off toward my ultimate car, a 67 GT500. Unfortunately, I had to sell it a few years ago. Maybe again some day....
plus 1, from another Doug. As naive as I was thinking that the ADM was across the board. I bought the car because I felt it was the only time I could.
What makes me more mad is the original plan was to produce the GT500 only for '07 and '08. Ford is now going to make an '09. There will be plenty of used cars at good prices...
I can only hope you are right.........Now I just have to marry and rich woman who wants to buy me a Shelby.......... David.
