They also state that a 6 cylinder was available in the '73 Mach 1
    which is not true.

1971 was NOT the last year for Cobra Jets - there was the 351 Cobra Jet.

I doubt very seriously that the GT500KR put out between 435 and 500 horsepower!

2002 Cobras did not have 390 hp.

I think their technical editor needs to do a little more research.

    Well, their pic of a 1967 GT 390 is actually a 1966 GT 289...At 01:37

  3. Seems like they are comparing apples and oranges. the KR's did put out
enormous HP but they were measuring it at the flywheel back then, with
no acc. belts., drivetrain loss, etc.

Look at the July Car and Driver: 68 427 Corvette rated at 435 Hp and weighs
3270lbs. KR was rated at 335 and weighed 3570 lbs. Yet quarter mile times
are identical. Clearly the KR was underrated and/or the Corvette was
    overrated; take your pick.

A few mistakes as usual ;)

Interesting they overlooked the Boss 302 but included the 69 GT350

  6. IMO quarter mile times can't be taken too seriously, especially the
early mag test articles. They can be all over the place, just look at
this sampling of early GT350 test times:

    65 GT350:
    -----------
    May 65 C&D: 14.9 @ 95 mph
    May 65 MT: 15.7 @ 91 mph
    June 65 Car Life: 14.7 @ 90 mph

    66 GT350:
    -----------
    March 66 PHR: 14.30 @ 99 mph
    May 66 C&D: 15.2 @ 93 mph
    Aug 66 MT: 15.6 @ 94 mph
    Sept 66 PHR: 14.6 @ 99 mph

    67 GT350:
    -----------
    Feb 67 PHR: 15.5 @ 93 mph
    March 67 SCG: 15.3 @ 91 mph
    May 67 MT: 15.9 @ 90 mph

At least two different mags had 14.9 sec times for a stock 68 GT350. Go
    figure...........

  7. One time I came across a guy with a very rare Mach1 Eliminator.
I think it may have been the only one built.

I also may have met the guy with the rare 6 cyl mach

    bob

  8. And the stock photography used was a bit dodgy. They took some of the
pics off of other websites. not good
