Well, let's do some math. Donor 67 Mustang in average shape, $8k. Mustangs Unlimited Eleanor body kit is $3995. The engine is expensive, if it's authentic, and not something with a set of dress up valve covers could be in the $25-30k range. That's about $42k. The going bid is $136k, so the difference is $94k. I SERIOUSLY doubt there is $94k in additional labor/parts ! So, I'd say someone is making a bucket of $$. Being an old geezer, there is one Eleanor, and that's the beat to hell Orange car from the original movie. I can't believe, nor have I ever understood the prices on these cars since the GISS movie. Anyone would pay that ridiculous amount of cash for something that could be built very cheaply, well, they've got more money than sense. Personally, I don't care for the car, I look at the one at Mustangs Unlimited that's for sale in their showroom for months now, they're asking $69k, but it's a lot less motor, looks like a 351 Ford Motorsports. Plus, I think I could find a real 67 GT350/500 Shelby Mustang for a lot less than this 67 Mustang that's just all duded up. My $.02, for what it's worth..... :cigar:

I tend to agree with the commish on this one --- however -- the going rate on a 67 fastback for restomod purposes could be as much as 20 but i don't think you could really start with one for less than 12 -- something that you were gonna sink this kind of gear into -- so let's say 15...that motor and trans and suspension and sub-frame and the work involved...50k..? -- paint and interior..15k...? -- I think the project all in could be 80 -- I'm projecting high -- but remember a car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it -- that's it -- barrett jackson teaches us that constantly

on last years olds prototype car that went to 2.7 million or whatever -- there were only 2 guys bidding after 600k -- they could have just quit and saved themselves 2 million -- a nice eleanor clone (not a 650 hp car) -- but nice clone like that should be 60-80 -- but that's my .01 cents -- j

I really like the Batmobile...the 60's one George Barris did. But I' not making a clone of it.
Why buy the fake, as mentioned, when a real one can be had for that same money?

A fake Eleanor? I agree with the Commish.... the first Eleanor is the real one. The later one posed as a modded '67 Shelby. So we're talking about a fake Eleanor of a fake Shelby.
Yeah, I think the seller is trying to retire early.

Check Evil Bay, some 67 fastbacks, suitable for donors, selling as low as $4k.... Wouldn't need much of a car to do that much modification.

At least the new owner is ready for it. If you check his feedback, he already bought some knee pads

I remember the last SAAC convention at Charlotte, the Unique folks were there with who knows what serial number of GT500E's, and God was it awful looking. My friend with a body shop just trashed it totally, visible welds, poor quality paint and bodywork, etc. SAAC kept allowing "extra track time" for it as it was being filmed and then the entire convention seemed to be the Lenny Kravitz personal auto driving experience. He was being woo'd to purchase one, and everytime I looked up, that stupid car was going around the track again, and our driving times for our groups mysteriously seemed to grow shorter. What sucked even more, the 2nd track day, was a washout with rain, so my $300 went down the drain plus the shortening of track time. The GT500E ragtop was at Amelia Island Concours last Feb, and boy was that thing awful looking. I'm sorry, I'm not on board with that car. People paying that much for a $4k body kit is insanity.

I saw a GT500E up close and I agree the body work was not good. You could see seems were the body filler and sheet metal did not blend. I expect that at cruise night, but not on a "new" Shelby continuation.
