When the cars were new, did the MSO state the car was from manufacturer "Shelby" or "Ford"? My 66 and 67 are titled as Shelby GT350 and Shelby GT500, respectively. I am looking at a 69 GT500 that is titled as a Ford Mustang. Does it matter when it comes time to sell again? There is no authenticity doubt, just wondering what other's experiences are who have owned more of these cars.

Mine is titled in Maryland as a Ford 2H, has been since 1971
Serial number is listed as GT350SFM6S1431, don't think Maryland DMV knew or could care what a Shelby was in 1971, so they picked Ford as the make

I had both of my cars changed from "Ford" to "Shelby". After all, there is no place on the cars that say "Ford".

What is the VIN number on the 69 gt500? No where on a 69/70 shelby was the word mustang. I would be really careful until I checked it all out. That 69 VIN should read 9F02R48****.

Personally, as long as the VIN matches, I wouldn't be too worried either way. I am pretty sure it was probably up to the individual states and maybe even the discretion of the official that originally titled the vehicle. Some states did not recognize Shelby as one of the "big three" and thus used "Ford" as the manufacturer. Other states used Shelby, still others some hybred combination. The VIN is what is important. A nice chain of ownership would also be helpful.

most tag agents in the '60's wou.d title everything a Ford if the MSO came from the Ford dealer. It makes absolutely zero difference as far as value is concerned whether manufacturer is listed as Ford or Shelby. I have that info direct from the registrar.

The important thing is the serial number. It must be a Shelby designated number, not just a Ford number. For example, a '66 GT-350 should have "SFM6s-****" on the title, not "6R09K******"

Well everybody is probably correct with what they say. Just remember that ALL 1969 SHELBY'S VIN start with 9F02R48. If it does not start with that then it is something else besides a shelby, namely a scam. Let us know please.

When I bought my 66 in 1987 (WA) it was titled as a Ford Mustang with the correct Shelby VIN. I had it changed to being titled as a Shelby GT350 for no other reason than that's the way I wanted it. All it took was a quick inspection by the WA State Patrol. Fortunatley the inspector was Shelby savy and was an easy process, I've heard of others having a very difficult time doing the same when dealing with a clueless inspector who felt it was a waste of their time.

OK great,it's a shelby. If you buy it. try and get the title changed to shelby. Then that issue will be put to rest.

I have a copy of my car's MSO from Shelby and copies of all the titles issued over the years. From the original sale in Florida to now it's always been titled as a Shelby.

+2 In RI my last 68 was a Ford GT5, my 07 is Shelby GT 500 and my current 68 is Ford Mustang GT 350. As long as all the original stamps, tags are there and everything matches I don't care what they call it (well, maybe not Pinto)
