I bought a 1967 Shelby GT500 a few years ago and now I have decided to put it back together. I'm looking for resources for information on putting it back together. I'm located in the San Francisco Bay Area and I had belong to the local Shelby Club but they seemed more interested in late model Mustangs and Open tracks. The local Mustang Club seemed to have moved from their regular meeting place. Is there any local clubs or people that I can contact to help guide/avert mistakes in the future? I restored a Sunbeam Tiger, and I know from past experiences, meeting knowlegable people makes the process a whole lot easier in restoring a car. Thank you for your input. Terry 1967 Shelby #504
Hey Terry. Sorry I can't help you with contacts local to you, but if you haven't already, join SAAC. The registrar for 67 Shelby's, Dave Matthews was a tremendous help to me when I restored #899. They may also help you locate knowlegable people close to you. Good luck on the restoration. Doug
I found the info in the Shelby Registry (1997) (part #'s, unique items) very helpful in determining what were the proper items and codes on the car. Tom Concoran's book (Shelby Mustang) has a lot of detailed color photo's of engine compartments, interiors and the like. Get the Marti report on your car as well to get the correct Ford build date and original equipment lists. As suggested the SAAC Registrar (D. Matthews) is very helpful. For $30 bucks he will also send you copies of all the documentation SAAC has on the car - original invoice; maintenance and the like. Some cars have more than others.
Terry, You are lucky to be in one of the best regions for Shelby restoration information, supply vendors and repair shops. You should join and register with the Shelby American Auto Club at www.saac.com as the next Shelby registry is in the works. Also get together with the gang at the Nor-Cal Saac Region. Some are into racing, others can assist with restoration info. Try www.norcal-saac.org. Don Hawaii
