New guy here looking to see if my 69 Shelby tail light panel is original or repo. I don't own a Shelby [yet] but I have a tail light panel that was on a customized 69 fastback Mustang that we scrapped. Not sure if I can post pics here or not so I'll describe it as best I can. It has a smooth backside as if it was press moulded as opposed to hand laminated. it is made from a cream color material. The bulb socket areas are part of the panel, not separate pieces. It has the proper shaped licence tag area between the tai lights, not a round hole to adapt over a Mach 1 gas cap. Appreciate any help. --- Dale
No. The backside of mine is smooth, press molded in a 2 part mold. That one is hand laminated fiberglass in a one part mold. The outer side of yours looks identical to mine. What does all this mean? [and BTW, thanks for the help]
OK - I got my answer................................ by e-mailing Tony Branda. They are calling my smooth backside panel original.
Can you upload pictures yet? I would like to have a set for my personal records. PM me for an email if you cannot upload to your post. Thanks Bill That's COOL yours is an original
Maybe, Bob G. says it is not, I'm awaiting a confirmation from Ed M and Jeff S. before I decide one way or the other. Bill S.
Just noticed you are the member that posted the 2 pics of the hand laminated tail light panel. So I wondered, did you feel that panel was original or repo?
BTW, this is the immediate answer I got at Branda after I sent them close ups. I quote: ---That is the real thing for sure. Have a good weekend. Thank you; Karl --- He had confirmed it with his used parts guy as they were interested in buying it.
Although exterior of the tail panel appears to be 100% original, the hand laminating brings up all sorts of questions. Always thought it was original, as I can trace the car back to the pre-order form. But, spending it's first 35 years in NYC and the outer boroughs, I guess anything is possible. As the car is a driver+ class car, and not really a show car, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it, but will take the time to source another when toys funds allow. Bill S.
Thanks Bob I am not looking at the moment but out of interest, what would be the price on that part? Thanks
