Master Cylinder-and Valve Cover..

    Have to admit.
    The 428 sitting there has always been a tight fit between the Cover and Cylinder. Know it was built that way.

    But
    after all these years the Master C. is out and I replaced it with a new one ( not nos---sorry, but keeping the original one stored safely).

    The replacement is a tighter fit than the original seems to me. Gained a few thousands by re-gasketing the old cover and putting it on the new cylinder...but still only have .035 to move with between the two..

    Would putting in new motor mounts help this...???
    still using the factory originals to this day..

    Any other ideas.?:confused:

    Coupla points. Torque moves the valve cover away from the MC, except in reverse. You don't race backward, much.

    Motor mounts might help, if the left one has sagged more than the right. Otherwise, it'll just go straight up. Of course, by loosening and tightening the motor mount bolts, shifting to the right while loose, you might get some more clearance.

    You can loosen the band clamp on the booster and rotate it away. I got about 1/4" between my cover and master this way. :thumbup:

    will do it...
    way to suggest...

    Started it last nite
    put it back in the trailer..it stated slapping at idle when it got a little warmed up.

    Motor mounts ability help, if the left one has sagged added than the right. Otherwise, it'll just go straight up. Of course, by alleviation and abbreviating the motor arise bolts, alive to the appropriate while loose, you ability get some added clearance.

    More recently I had this problem, and the above tricks just didn't cut it. I removed the LH valve cover, padded the engine and master cylinder, and put a 5' long prybar in between. Coupla quick tweaks, and there was 1/4" clearance between the MC and valve cover. It all looked nice and straight when assembled, too, I have to figure the firewall etc., was a bit off to begin with.
