My dad's GT350H on the cover!

I guess it's safe to reveal now that they are shipping, but I wanted to let you all know how excited I am to share that my dad's GT350H is on the front and rear cover of the VA Mustang 2008 catalog. I took the photos myself in July and submitted them for consideration. I looked for a long time to find the perfect background to represent the Midwest and North Dakota, which is where the car is located.

When I was in high school, I took it upon myself to educate and bother my dad to death about these cool Hertz cars. I kept showing him magazine articles and books as well as classifieds. I was a 17 year old kid who was fortunate enough to be able to drive a '65 Mustang 'vert and finally convinced my Dad to consider selling it to step up to a Shelby.

I finally found this Shelby listed in the Snakebite and immediately called and thankfully, the owner, Bill Collins, was smart enough not to dismiss the teenage kid on the other end of the phone. He answered my questions, sent requested pictures and even offered to take my convertible on trade! Well, after talking it over with my dad, he finally agreed and we made the deal.

We drove 500 miles in the 'vert to pick it up and drove the Shelby home. I was never more excited in my life. I even got to drive the car whenever I wanted that summer before going to college.

We've had the car since 1992 and my dad frequently comments on how smart he was to follow my advice.

Too bad he didn't listen to me when I was only 12 and told him to buy that GT500KR 'vert we saw for sale at the same show we found the '65. $15K seemed like a TON of money for an old car back in the 80s. A couple years later, the price was $35K. About 5 months ago, I ran into the guy who had the KR for sale in Mandan, ND at the time. When I brought up the KR, he told me his butt was still sore.
