written by a Calif. guy who wrote two previous books on Shelby related subjects. Haven't seen one yet, so can't yet given an opinion.Written by an old hand who was there in racing well before S-A started. But here's the adv. blurb with not a word unchanged: Title: The Shelby American Story Author: Art Evans By Art Evans with photography by Dave Freidman Le Mans winner Carroll Shelby was one of the best American drivers during the fifties. But unfortunately, his racing career was cut short after the 1960 season due to his heart condition. Always interested in car design and construction, Shelby conceived one of the most successful sports cars, the Cobra, followed by the King Cobra, the Cobra Daytona Coupe and Shelby Mustangs. His company—Shelby American—won the World Manufacturers’ Championship in 1965. At the helm of the Ford GT program, he won the triple crown of racing: Le Mans, Sebring and Daytona. This book details not only the triumphs, but also the tragedies as well profiling those involved including Mario Andretti, Phil Hill, Ken Miles, Dan Gurney and many others. Illustrated with more than 200 photographs, the book is hardcover in an 8½x11-inch landscape format with 128 pages. A bargain for only $39.95 and a future collectible. Item No. 39752 $39.95
Art Evans is a knowledgeable guy that has written numerous books, including "Shelby, the Race Driver." That was a very good book chronicling Carroll's racing days in the 50's. It is not without mistakes, but is well worth the read and stands out in my opinion because it focuses on Carroll's pre-Cobra exploits. Very few other books even touch the subject. He has known Carroll for many years and still associates with him. I look forward to checking out his newest book about Shelby American. Thanks for posting Bitzman. Randall
